Being one of the oldest museums of Natural History in Sweden, we have a
long tradition of collecting also invertebrates. All from the beginning,
shells of molluscs have attracted collectors and we have large
collections of both subfossilised and recent specimens.
Oscar
Carlgren, who worked at the museum between 1912 and 1930, assembled
extensive worldwide collections of anthozoans, which include
considerable type material.
Also Knut Lindberg (1892-1962)
brought together large collections of invertebrates, especially
copepods, from India, Afghanistan, and Europe.
The material
collected by the Lund University South African (1950-51) and Sri Lanka
(1961-62) expeditions, containing many type specimens, are kept at our
museum.
