Open lecture and screening of Madame by Qiu Jiongjiong
13.15-15.15: “Individual and Sphere: Movements by Chinese Artists and Artists on Film” open lecture by Professor Zhang Xianmin, Beijing Film Academy.
Zhang Xianmin is a professor, film critic, and president of the Chinese Independent Film Archive (CIFF). He founded the Indie Workshop in 2005 and initiated the Independent Film Foundation in 2010. He has served as a jury member and film selector for many international film festivals, authored several books, as well as produced over ten independent films.
15.15-18.00: Screening of "Madame" (120 minutes, 2010) by Qiu Jiongjiong and Q&A with the director.
Qiu Jiongjiong is an artist and independent film director. Madame is an intimate portrait of designer and tailor Fan Qihui who also worked as a singer in bars during evenings. The film moves between scenes of Fan singing and him telling his life as a homosexual in contempoary Chinese society. Fan committed suicide in 2010. The film is part of the current exhibition Secret Love at the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities, Stockholm.
