Seminarium i molekylär cellbiologi med Leendert Hamoen
Leendert Hamoen från University of Newcastle, UK, föreläser om "How curvature, fluidity, and membrane charge influences protein lokalization in bacteria".
The bacterial cell is a highly organized structure, and the cell membrane plays an important role in the localization of proteins. I will discuss how local curvature of the cell membrane can guide proteins to their proper position in the cell. In addition, the importance of the membrane potential in the localization of cell division proteins will be discussed, and how the bacterial cytoskeleton helps to distribute membrane proteins by inducing fluid membrane regions; an activity that resembles the function of the eukaryotic cortical actin cytoskeleton.
