Ämnesbeskrivning
The research at the Division of Atomic Physics is centred on different applications of optics and lasers, including materials science, attophysics, high-intensity laser-plasma physics, quantum information, and biophotonics. The Division operates the Lund High-Power Laser Facility, including a state-of-the-art 10 Hz multi-terawatt laser system. At this facility, experimental research on intense, short-pulse laser-matter interactions is pursued, including laser-plasma driven acceleration of charged particles. The division is a central part of a major interdisciplinary research environment within the Lund University, the Lund Laser Centre, LLC. The division is also heavily involved in undergraduate education, especially within the "Photonics programme".
Arbetsuppgifter
The work assignment for the present postdoctoral researcher will be focused on laser-plasma-based acceleration of both electrons and ions at the Lund High-Power Laser Facility, Division of Atomic Physics. Special emphasis will be on issues related to the quality of the particle beams in terms of, e.g., peak energy, energy spread, beam pointing and shot-to-shot stability. The work includes participation in the day-to-day operation of the terawatt laser system, design and implementation of experimental setups, including target preparation and particle diagnostics, performing experiments and data analysis. The work is pursued in a research team including senior researcher, PhD and diploma students and post docs. In addition, this team frequently hosts international visiting researchers as collaborators. The postdoctor is assumed to participate in the supervision of students in the team.
Behörighet
The candidate should have a PhD degree in physics, or equivalent, and documented experience in experimental research with high-intensity lasers and laser-matter interactions. Priority will be given to applicants who have received their PhDs no more than three years before the job application deadline.
Bedömningsgrund
Experience from laser-plasma-based acceleration of charged particles is considered a strong merit. Since most of the experimental work is done as teamwork, and many times in collaboration with international collaborators, very good social competence and ability to collaborate is thus mandatory. Very good knowledge in English is a further requirement.
Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 15 of the Higher Education Ordinance, Lund University Teacher Appointment Regulations,(http://www3.lu.se/pers/Regler/aolu02_en.pdf ) and in the Strategic Plan of Lund University (http://www.lu.se/upload/LUPDF/Om_LU/Strategicplan_2007_2011.pdf).
