Welfare Policies and Management - Master Programme , 120.0 hp
With a unique combination of perspectives from political science, social work, sociology and economics, this programme provides you with a broad range of knowledge, analytical skills and methods intended for the management, administration and evaluation of welfare services. The courses are based on a comparative approach, highlighting differences and similarities across countries, administrative levels and policy areas, including a European Union perspective. In addition to being active researchers in their own field of expertise, our teachers have undergone educational training and make use of modern teaching and assessment techniques. We also bring practitioners into our courses, and make visits to different types of agencies involved in the provision of welfare services.
Knowledge and skills you acquire in the programme:
In-depth knowledge of welfare regimes in different parts of the world
A basic understanding of public economics
The ability to apply techniques and methods for evaluating public and private welfare programmes
A one-year specialisation in your main discipline

Welfare Regimes in Transition - Comparative Perspectives on Policies, Management and Reform (15 credits), Research Methods in the Social Sciences (15 credits), An introduction to Public Economics (15 credits), Theory of Science for the Social Sciences (7.5 credits) and Evaluation and Welfare Management (7.5 credits), Courses in your major ie. Political Science or in Social Work or in Sociology (15 credits), Master s (Two Years) thesis (30 credits), elective courses or internship (15 credits).
Career prospects
The programme prepares you for advanced welfare management work in roles such as policy formulation and decision making at local, regional, national or international level. A degree in Welfare Policies and Management can also lead to employment in the private sector, such as non-governmental institutions or profit-making organisations. In addition, the programme prepares you for doctoral studies and a continued academic career.
