System på chips - Masterutbildning, 120.0 hp
System-on-Chip offers a wide perspective, where digital and analogue design is regarded as one unit in which different domains interact. The focus is on CMOS, where billions of devices are used to build a system on a single silicon die. The programme is very popular, with 150-200 applicants per year. One of the reasons for its popularity is the fact that it is a unique programme. It spans areas from radio frequency (RF) circuits through data conversion and further to digital circuits. The Lund programme is also unique in the sense that circuit design is linked to the area of wireless communication, where RF front-ends are co-designed with digital baseband, which gives the possibility to build complete transceivers.
Special features of the programme:
- The focus is on applied studies in digital IC design, analogue/RF IC design and mixed signal/data conver sion IC design.
- All taught study involves hands-on laboratory work using the most modern CAD tools.
- After the initial taught courses, students undertake a large project, where the student starts from a digital or analogue design specification and carries it through to silicon realisation.
- Students gain skills in the design of integrated circuits (ICs) using the most modern silicon technologies.
- The programme is taught by world leading researchers and there are very strong links to research in the field.
Career prospects
After completing this programme you will be ready for a career in circuits and systems with focus on VLSI design. Designers in this area are very attractive throughout the world. Lund is a part of one of the fastest growing regions in Europe, with a large concentration of interesting companies in the field, such as ST Ericsson, Sony, Ericsson Research, Axis and ARM Sweden, with thousands of R&D employees. In the future there will be opportunities in the European Spallation Source (ESS) and MAX IV, which will be located in Lund. Graduates from this programme are also very attractive for the job market in Europe, the US and other countries. Furthermore, perhaps the most interesting career option is to continue towards a PhD. A large number of former Master s students have chosen to continue as researchers, both in Lund and in other cities around the world.
