Title: Along one and the same road - a study of the people behind some hand written song books from around the turn of the 19th century. It is based on some hand written songbooks found in homes along the small byroad in Kruse, Alva, Gotland. My own connection to the place is that I was born in one of these houses. During the summer of 2008 interviews were made with four people who live or have lived along this road themselves. Some of them have even lived in the same houses as the owners of the books. The informants were asked to leave information about the eight people who have written in the songbooks. The aim of this study is to find out more about the people behind the handwritten songbooks. The question is thereby: Who were the people behind these handwritten songbooks? The information the informants came up with is partly connected to the information that is found in the hand written books. The result is not meant to generalise, but to stress the fact that it is important to get an overview of the individual behind a book such as the ones I have focused on in this study. The reason for this is that with that kind of information you can get a broader picture of how the songs were sung, if they were sung. You can also get a picture of the context of these writings and the phenomena of writing these songs down as an activity. The result of this study is that it is possible to get a deeper understanding of the context through the information about the individual behind the book.

Denna studie är baserad på några handskrivna sångböcker från sekelskiftet 1900. Samtliga har tillhört ägare som har bott längs en och samma lilla grusväg; en sträcka på ca 800 meter. Denna grusväg ligger på södra Gotland i socknen Alva, och platsen heter Kruse. Min egen koppling till denna plats är den att jag har växt upp på gården Stora Kruse. Under sommaren 2008 gjordes intervjuer med fyra personer som även de bor eller har bott vid Kruse, vissa av dem i samma hus som de som ägt böckerna. Informanterna ombads lämna information om de åtta personer som ägt och skrivit i dessa böcker. Syftet med studien är att ta reda på mer om personerna bakom de handskrivna böckerna. Forskningsfrågan blir således: Vilka var personerna bakom pennan till dessa handskrivna visböcker? Den information som informanterna lämnade har delvis kopplats till information som hittats i de handskrivna böckerna. Det är inte meningen att resultatet ska vara generaliserbart, utan belysa det faktum att det är viktigt att få en överblick av individen bakom en sådan bok. Med den typen av information kan man få en bredare bild av hur sångerna sjöngs, och om de över huvud taget sjöngs. Man kan även få en bild av dessa böckers sammanhang samt själva visboksskrivandet som fenomen. Resultatet av denna studie är att man kan få en djupare förståelse för kontexten genom att veta mer om individen bakom boken.
