Nonprofit Organizations Shaping the Market of Supplies

Summary, in English

In the humanitarian aid context, the availability of essential

commodities in the right quantities and at the right time

and place is crucial for the survival of beneficiaries. In order

to avoid the risks associated with a limited supplier base,

non-profit organizations are increasingly becoming aware

of the need to diversify their supply base and to include the

for profit, or corporate sector. Simultaneously, corporations

are realizing the benefits of working with non-profits as

their customers and shareholders expect them to act like

responsible ‘citizens’.

Non-profit buyers have traditionally been considered

the weaker player in this relationship. However, several

initiatives undertaken by them in influencing their supply

market suggests a stronger influence of non-profits on the

global supply chain than previously perceived. This article is

going to look specifically at the influence of non-profits on

the market for vaccines.
