Sammanfattning
Cinema and gender in queer theory share two fundamental aspects: both are performative and understood as social constructions. Nowadays, queer theory still causes adverse reactions with respect to the understanding of sex, gender and sexuality and Almodóvar's films have remained relevant until today. These two reasons lead us to the idea of looking at the film High Heels (Pedro Almodóvar, 1991) from a queer theory perspective. We chose this film for its strong presence of parody and performativ in its charac- ters. Taking Judith But- ler’s queer theory as our starting point, we go through five concepts: performativity, parody of gender, subversive potential, the dichotomies of sex-gender and homo - heterosexuality. The imitation process and the essence of the imitated become the thread of this analysis through the interaction of characters.
