Summary, in English
The overall level of education is increasing in Europe. This article focuses on women's educational attainment and especially on differences in expansion rates in Germany, Portugal and Swedn. The author argues that an understanding of the expansion of the number of women in education must consider - in addition to the structure of the educational system - recent economic, demographic, social and cultrual changes in contemporary Europe. The role of education for women's changing position as citizens is also discussed.
