Microprocessor-based Finite Elements Solutions to Marine Aerosol Deposition Models

Författare

Summary, in English

Simple finite elements for an aerosol deposition model embryo are presented. The model is derived by studying concentration changes due to effects of relative humidity (rh), gravitational settling and eddy transport. Its uses a discretisation of particle size distributions and it eventually leads to a system of coupled Euler equations. This is solved by iterative use of the Finite Element method and are, for steady state conditions, compared to analytical solutions. The independent solutions are used to validate the numerical method for further model development. It is shown that the FE-method provides solutions deviating only fractions of per cents compared to analytical solutions, even when implementing the FE-method only on a pocket computer.
