Disasters claim a terrible toll in human lives and suffering around the world, and have increasingly been identified as a major threat to sustainable development and to the Millennium Development Goals. To substantially reduce disaster losses a holistic approach to Disaster Management is needed, balancing its three main processes – Disaster Risk Reduction, Response and Recovery. To meet this, University of Copenhagen and Lund University have jointly developed a Master of Disaster Management.
The programme leads to a recognised Master’s degree from the University of Copenhagen, with mandatory and elective courses from Lund University. Thus offering students the opportunity to take advantage of over 870 years of research and experience of two leading Scandinavian universities.
The Master of Disaster Management is designed in accordance to the Hyogo Framework for Action, to provide professionals working with Disaster Management, from national and international aid workers to private sector and government officials, with a holistic interdisciplinary academic background to the three main processes of Disaster Management – Disaster Risk Reduction, Response and Recovery.
