The curriculum combines professional and hands-on skills with a multidisciplinary academic understanding. The graduates of the programme will be able to:
• Analyse, evaluate, and manage the dynamic factors of disasters on an individual, societal or company level, locally and globally.
• Work theoretically, strategically and operationally in all three main processes of Disaster Management –and understand how these are interconnected.
• Make qualified decisions that are based on an identification and analysis of the vulnerabilities, needs and capacities of affected individuals and societies.
• Work, act and communicate in multi-cultural and interdisciplinary teams under different conditions.
• Collect, document, analyse information regarding risks, humanitarian needs, lessons learned etc.
The Master of Disaster Management will improve the graduates’ knowledge and working skills, not only in the specific area of interest but even more so by providing them with a holistic understanding of Disaster Management, thus facilitating coordination with professionals in other areas.
A master’s degree in Disaster Management is helpful or even required
when working for national and international emergency agencies, relief
organisations, national governments, the UN system and private companies.
