All of the faculties at Lund offer Ph.D. programmes. The minimum time needed to obtain a Ph.D. degree is four years of study.
To apply for a Ph.D., please contact the relevant faculty directly.
Ph.D studies - faculty information
A Ph.D programme normally consists of two parts: courses and thesis.
In Sweden a 'licentiate' degree equals the completion of half of the coursework, or thesis, required for a full Ph.D. It is equivalent to the MPhil of the British education system.
A Swedish Ph.D is worth 240 ECTS and a licentiate degree 120 ECTS.
Some departments may require that the thesis is part of a project which is underway at the department. A doctoral thesis must be published and publically defended.
There is no formal application procedure or deadlines.
Contact the relevant faculty and discuss the opportunities for Ph.D study. Available positions are advertised on the universities job pages.
PhD positions (In
Swedish, 'Doktorand')
Applications for Ph.D studies are to be sent directly to the department/faculty. Certificates and transcripts must be officially certified copies. Authorized translations are often needed.
You may need to provide additional details of your academic background, e.g. syllabuses, course descriptions and literature lists.
If you require a residence permit you can only complete your permit application after you receive a letter of acceptance from the university. Residence permit applications are dealt with by the Swedish migration board.
