Georg Andersson, PhD student

I have a broad interest in ecology, environmental science and sustainability. The questions on, what a sustainable society or culture is, and, how to achieve it are interesting but complex, which makes them even more interesting. My main interest, at least scientifically, lies in the part on what criteria needs to be met or what we need to do to live within the boundaries of a sustainable use of the environment and natural resources. Here both ecological knowledge and environmental science comes handy.
I currently study how organic farming, landscape context and historical landscape processes affects pollinator diversity and pollination functions.

Organic farming has been suggested to benefit the diversity and in most cases shown to do so but the effect can change with landscape context. Can this also be true for ecosystem services like pollination and does the effect change over time?

How pollination is affected by landscape structure and farming practices is interesting from a basic research point of view. It is however also of concern for both conservation and agricultural production. How we can manage agricultural systems to the benefit of both organisms, ecosystem functioning and human well-being is a big part of the question on how to make society sustainable?
