Roman is a PhD-student at CIRCLE and the Department of Social and Economic Geography, Lund University. He graduated in economic geography at the University of Hanover, Germany, and worked as a student assistant at the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research (ISI) in Karlsruhe, Germany. His research interest lies in the area of economic geography, regional innovation systems and efficiency and productivity analysis.
At the moment, he is studying European regions concerning their R&D and innovation activities. The intention is to take a look on regional innovation systems from an efficiency and productivity perspective. Theoretical concepts like regional innovation systems and learning regions argue that the success of firms’ R&D and innovation activities are influenced by different factors on the regional level. In this sense, the main aim would be to find out why some regions’ industries are more efficient conducting R&D and innovation; and to study what regional factors are crucial for differences in innovation performance across Europe.
The PhD-position is funded by VINNOVA, the Swedish Governmental Agency for Innovation Systems.
