Björn Samuelsson

I have my scientific background in theoretical physics. I did my PhD at Lund University about dynamics in random Boolean networks. After my PhD, I continued work on the same subject as a postdoc at Duke University. My work with random Boolean networks had a strong focus on analytical derivations, and my research pointed out some interesting qualitative oddities of the investigated class of models. After this experience, I wanted to apply new mathematical tools to more realistic mathematical models. I started working in the Vision group after I studied master-level cognitive science at Lund University.

My current work in the Vision Group has the focus on fundamental aspects of evolutionary selection, because many fundamental aspects of evolution cannot be reproduced with current mathematical models. Besides the modeling work, I'm also involved in design and testing of LED illumination for experiments in the Vision Group. For teaching, I give lectures, in programming and fundamental theoretical physics, at the Department of Astronomy and Theoretical Physics. I like to have active connections with both biology and theoretical physics, and I believe that more interdisciplinary interactions are needed in science.
