Abstract
The European Spallation Source (ESS) will be the worlds brightest neutron source---allowing ground-breaking research in medicine, material science, solar cells, superconductivity and many other fields. To achieve record-breaking brightness requires ESS to be driven by the world's most powerful linear accelerator. The accelerator will have a peak power of 125 MW, and will accelerate protons to energies of 2 GeV using electromagnetic fields confined in 155 radio-frequency accelerator cavities. For proper acceleration the amplitudes and phases of the accelerating RF fields need to be accurately controlled by fast feedback loops. The focus point of the talk will be this interesting control problem that has nice flavors of both radio systems and classic control theory. However, we will also give an introduction to the design of ESS and its accelerator, including images of a 11 tonnes Tungsten wheel, 1 MW RF amplifiers and 500 kg circulators.

Bio
Olof received his MSc from Lund University in 2012, He worked in the aerospace industry for two years before returning to Lund in 2014 to work at ESS and a PhD degree.
