Fika-to-Fika Workshop: Language Technology in Medicine and Life Sciences

AI represented by numbers over the x-ray of a human skull
Seminarium
In medicine and life sciences we are overloaded with different forms of text and speech. Texts in the form of electronic health records, genomic sequences, scientific articles, twitter feeds or patient questionnaires can be analysed to gain new scientific insights. Speech technology can be used in health apps and chatbots, to extract information from doctor-patient-dialogues or to direct medical robots. This workshop will cover the different application areas of language technology in medicine and life sciences as well as the methods used in this exciting and broad field.

The workshop is open to LU students and staff as well as to external attendees from industry, health care/public sector and the general public. It is hosted jointly by AI Lund (formerly called AIML@LU), eHealth@LU, Medicon Valley Alliance, LINXSeSSENCE and the Lund branch of the RSG-Sweden network and the COMPUTE research school and thus also serves to bring together these related communities for the first time.

The program will consist of talks, demonstrations and networking opportunities and cover a broad range of topics including but not limited to:

  • natural language processing concepts and methods
  • speech technology
  • artificial intelligence approaches in language technology
  • examples of language technology research at Lund University
  • artificial intelligence and e-health environment in Lund
