General information

The European Union is one of the world's largest and most important economies. To optimize the understanding of its functions, our courses in European Business Law are now available both as stand-alone courses and as a course package! The course package of 15 credits consists of three separate courses (5 credits each) intended to give the participant an overall understanding of the basics of European Business Law. The duration of the course package is ten weeks full-time studies. The course package is useful for people both inside and outside the European Union, whether they are students, professionals, or simply just interested in the European Union and European Business Law. Prior knowledge of law and knowledge of the European Union is not a requirement.

Each individual course contains a number of obligatory quizzes and a written assignment. The written assignment is worth five (5) credits.

Course content

Each course is divided into six modules. 

The first course has the following six modules:

Introduction to EU law

Sources and Method

Fundamental Principles

Enforcement of EU Law and Judicial Review

The Economic Freedoms

The External Dimension

The second course has the following six modules:

Making business transactions

Establishing a company

Employing and working in Europe

Paying taxes and complying with environmental standards

Resolving cross-border disputes

Case clinic

The third course has the following six modules:

Trademarks as essential assets

Defending patents

Competition: illegal cooperation

Competition: abuse of dominance and mergers

Selling to the state and state aid

Legal writing and argumentation

Course design

The course objectives are met through active participation in the education, independent studies of the course material and carrying out obligatory elements of the course. The courses are designed as web-based courses, which means that all the teaching is done through pre-recorded online lectures. The lectures are paired with mandatory quizzes in the form of multiple-choice questions.

Assessment

Your will be assessed by participation in obligatory quizzes and the written assignments. Each written assignment is worth five (5) credits, and the final grade of each course is based on the student’s achieved result of the written assignment.
