The role of informal sector in waste management, a case study from Jordan; Tafila region.

Författare

Summary, in English

Waste recycling and resource recovery was recognized as an effective way of managing waste; as the rapid increase in solid waste generation became a serious problem which threaten the human and environment. Scavenging activities are one of the common methods for recycling in the Third world countries.

In this work we will see the role of scavengers and their effect on the waste management process in Jordan.

One of the major findings is that the scavenging tends to be useful and profitable despite the fact that scavengers are exposed to the hazardous and unhealthy work place environment. Another finding is that scavengers play an important role in the informal solid waste management especially in term of waste reduction and minimization in the country, socially it became more acceptable in rural areas as it is already in urban areas in Jordan.
