Summary, in English
This thesis examines the image of China in the German media after the full-blown Russian-Ukrainian war. Due to the increasing importance of China’s economic and political influence in Germany and Europe, the selection of the research sources will primarily focus on the economic and political aspects. In terms of research methodology, this thesis adopts a combination of thematic research, qualitative content analysis and comparative research to gain an in-depth understanding of the image of China, namely the main target of the study, by selecting the major German paper media Die Zeit, Der Spiegel, Bild and Junge Freiheit. Furthermore, the theory of image studies is employed in this thesis.
According to the analysis, China is not only a partner and competitor on which Germany is increasingly relying in the economic field, but also in the political field, where it is seen as a “helper” of Russia, a “mediator” in international affairs, a threat to Taiwan, and an opponent of human rights and democracy.
