Covering the Edges – Benita Massignani
How do we define a space? How do we read a space?
Photographs of confetti found throughout the city, textiles suspended in the air, and typographical signs moving through the space.
In Covering the Edges, Benita Massignani turns our attention to the objects and materials that create and sustain a threshold: the division between inside and outside, visible and invisible. Focusing on the social aspects of clothing. A uniform that distinguishes.
Borrowing from the world around us, she works with the recognizability of objects and estranges their function. Through small shifts, she plays with already charged materials, creating spaces that expand and contract. Here, the blurry border, the periphery, forms a frame around what is right in front of us, what we have become blind to.
Our gaze is redirected towards the invisible threads that both bind systems together and mark their separations.
