Summary, in English
Alfonso Pecha (b. 1327, d. 1389), Bishop of Spanish Jaén from 1359 to 1368, went to Italy after his resignation. There he made St. Bridget’s acquaintance. Alfonso who was a man of great learning and wide experience became St. Bridget's trusted advisor and assisted her in propagating her great causes (the return of the papacy from Avignon to Rome, a reform of the Church, the founding of a new order, the repentance of sinners, etc). He was eventually also entrusted with the task of codifying Bridget’s celestial revelations (the Liber Celestis). It was thus he who was to guarantee that Bridget’s amazing revelations, God’s words to humanity, were preserved and disseminated.
After her death he played an important role in promoting her canonisation and keeping her ideals and issues alive.
The article addresses questions such as the relationship between (male) confessor and (female) saint, the modifications of the (divine) message in the (very secular) process of translation and codification and the promoting of a new saint.
