In this presentation, I discuss critical friend sessions (see Handal 1999), performed during autumn 2014 and spring 2015, and focusing on lecturers educating the same group of teacher students. The aim was to investigate whether or not one could find traces of didactics in their teaching, since a didactic dimension is necessary when educating students at a teacher education program. The lecturers involved do not usually teach at teacher education programs, but rather on separate courses, often with a theoretic perspective.



Some crucial prerequisites seemed important in order to use the critical friend-sessions as a tool for improving a didactic awareness: 1) a focus not on the pedagogy and pedagogical skills of each lecturer, but rather on a common, didactic goal, 2) following-up seminars where the most interesting points were discussed, and 3) a give-and-take relationship between theory and practice.
