Summary, in English

The traditional orthosis are tight and allow minimal evaporation. A new prototype was designed. The thermal foot model tests were carried out at isothermal (Ts=Ta=34 °C) and non-isothermal (Ta=23 °C) conditions with relative humidity set to 17 and 41 %, respectively, and at air velocities of 0.25 (LVa) and 0.85 m/s (HVa). Evaporative resistance (Ret) was calculated based on foot model’s heat loss and mass loss. The total insulation of the new orthosis increased compared to the old one by 28 % and total resultant insulation by 17 % (LVa). Ret based on model heat loss (isothermal condition) decreased 30 (LVa) and 42 % (HVa), while the one by mass loss reduced 3.2 (HVa) and 6.6 (LVa) times. The method can be used to evaluate insulation and evaporative resistance of footwear. The purpose of the tests should define the choice of the specific method.
