Presented at the Roundtable on NGOgraphy, American Anthropological Association Annual Meetings, Denver, 17 November 2015. This chapter describes the dialectic between fieldwork engagement and ethnographic analysis of working with NGOs. In all the chapters in this collection, anthropologists must work out their relationship to the NGOs that they study, balancing engagement, support, objectivity, analysis, and reflection.
