The narrative sequence is basic to language, both spoken and written, and is used as a multitask resource in familiar as well as formal interactions. In this article the narrative sequence is approached from a somewhat particular angle. I have chosen to focus on those narratives where the subjects concern cultural and historical events in exolingual conversations in French. The article then discusses the differences between native and non-native speakers of French in the production of stories treating cultural and historical events. I also discuss what can be improved in a learning situation by students gaining a better awareness of the narrative

sequence, how to structure it, and for what purposes it can be used.
