Författare

  • Ruta Rijniece

Summary, in English

Today heritage is considered to be an important resource for society and a valuable asset for sustainable development. This notion is true from international to local/regional level.
This thesis investigates the current heritage discourse in the European Union (EU) and provides a qualitative assessment of the values and potential impacts of the two case studies, conducted in the proceedings of this thesis in Halland region, Sweden. These are the World Heritage Grimeton Radio Station and Äskhult culture reserve. By analysing the findings from the case studies in relation to the current heritage discourse in the EU, this thesis demonstrates how cultural heritage can contribute to sustainable development as well as elucidates the relationship between theory and practice of heritage management for sustainable development.
