Lo fantástico cómplice de estereotipos eurocéntricos Un análisis postcolonial de “La noche boca arriba” de Julio Cortázar

The complicity of the fantastic in Eurocentric stereotypes. A postcolonial analysis of Julio Cortázar's "The night face up"

Summary, in English

The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to contribute to a postcolonial re-reading of Julio Cortázar’s work titled “La noche boca arriba” (translated as “The Night Face Up”). The interest arises because the fantastic aspects of the story has been the main focus of many literary analyses, overshadowing the dichotomous narrative. Therefore, the objective of this thesis is to analyse the Eurocentric stereotypes present in the story. By employing a postcolonial theory, the critical analysis of the story has allowed the transparency of the construction of the “other” in relation to indigenous culture, and a reflection of the conflict of cultural identity. The conclusion drawn is that the story reinforces the Latin American social image of indigenous as “barbaric” as well as the desire for a European cultural identity.
