About Marint Centrum

Simrishamn municipality has been actively working on sea and water-related issues for many years to contribute to a better environment in the Baltic Sea. In 2010, Marint centrum was established as a meeting place with a focus on the sea, water, and coastal areas. Since 2019, the municipality and Lund University have been driving a research and innovation environment aimed at addressing current environmental issues and societal challenges in the Hanö bay and southern Baltic Sea. Hence, Marint centrum is a unique hub where actors within science, engineering, society and industry meet and exchange experiences and develop solutions to real world problems. About the event

Today we have about 15 different projects running and more to come. During the event we will present a few of them and you will get the opportunity to meet us, researchers and students from biology, geology, environmental science and LTH. We are looking for more students to come and join us either for thesis work or for internship. 

You will also get a chance to dive into Hanö bay without getting your feet wet and to taste the future of ocean harvest! 

The event is open for everyone, free of charge and we will treat you with some ocean related snack (vegan options will be available) – welcome! 

About the event hosts:

• Josefine Larsson, research- and innovation coordinator, Marint centrum, Simrishamns kommun has a background in marine ecology and conducts research in the field of environmental science and ecotoxicological issues.
• Anders Persson, researcher and lecturer in aquatic ecology. Has a background in aquatic ecology and fish biology and his research range from fundamental research questions in behavioral and food web ecology to applied questions in fish biology and water management.
• Helena L. Filipsson, professor of Quaternary Geology specializing in Marine Geology. With a background in oceanography her research includes both contemporary environments and climate and environmental reconstructions from coastal environments.

This event is part of Sustainability Week 2024, an annual event organized in collaboration between Lund University and Lund Municipality. In this year's program April 8-13, you will find lectures, workshops, guided tours, exhibitions, and more.
