Nature & Environment
The students of the Master’s Programme in Visual Culture at Lund University is organizing a three-day conference to discuss topics related to Nature and Environment. This is the fourth time the conference is arranged and is bringing together artists, scholars and students to reflect upon ongoing matters related to Nature, Environment and Visual Culture.
With the climate crisis and its effects becoming more and more tangible, discussions in the environmental humanities field have become more important than ever before. This conference aims to encourage a deeper understanding of the complex relationship between human beings and the environment through visual culture and the speakers will discuss issues related to the visual representation of nature and the environment.
The conference will feature keynote speaker Oliver Ressler, artist and filmmaker who produces installations, projects in public space, and films on issues such as economics, democracy, migration, the climate crisis, forms of resistance and social alternatives.
The conference will also feature keynote speaker Sigurd Bergmann, Professor Emeritus in Philosophy and Religious Studies, Norwegian University of Science and Technology. Sigurd Bergmann's previous studies have investigated the relationship between the image of God and the view of nature in late antiquity, the methodology of contextual theology, visual arts in the indigenous Arctic and Australia, as well as visual arts, architecture and religion, and religion in climate change.
In addition to the keynote speakers, the conference will feature student papers and panel discussions – providing a platform for knowledge sharing, networking, and collaboration.
Subjects to be discussed include anthropomorphism/zoomorphism, natural/unnatural environments, Landscape in Video-games, Melancholy nature, Eco-feminism, Biocentrism/anthropocentrism as well as a diverse range of other topics.
In addition to the stimulating discussions, the conference will provide refreshments, including snacks and coffee. These breaks will provide attendees with opportunities to mingle and meet new people, further fostering the exchange of ideas and making new connections.
The conference will be held between the 15-17 march in the humanities building (LUX) room C121 at Lund University campus and will be held in English. The conference is open to all and no registration is required.
