Prostitution i Kina

Författare

  • Annastina Brandt

Summary, in English

Since the elimination of prostitution in the 1950’s, China has been virtually free from this alleged social problem until the 1980’s, when the “open door policy” seemed to bring it back to the surface, forcing the government to react and bring the subject up to debate. Using Chinese research data, this paper strives towards understanding the situation of prostitutes and prostitution in contemporary China. It also examines the methods used by the Chinese government to eradicate sextrade in the past as well as the present. A discussion of whether these methods of fighting prostitution are efficient considering the individual backgrounds of the prostitutes along with the causes of prostitution resurgence are also included along with descriptions of state policies concerning sextrade and trafficking.
