Summary, in English

In November 2014 was the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall. Though east and west Berlin, and Germany as a whole, have been reunited for several years, the differences between east and west are still present in different discourses. The aim of this essay is to examine the view on East Germany/GDR in the narratives of left party Die Linke, trough analysis of four texts related to anniversaries of the wall and relevant documents for Die Linke as a party. All texts are to find on the party’s official webpage.
This essay will find that Die Linke often state the complexity of history and modern time. That way, they condemn the crimes of the GDR regime, but show that at the same time how they consider some aspects of East Germany to be worth remembering as good ones. Their critique of Germany today also goes hand in hand with their critique of GDR.
