Summary, in English

In 2015 the world experienced the largest refugee crises of modern history. This thesis aims to study Angela Merkel’s approach to it 2015-2017 according to four themes: a) division of refugees within the European Union; b) security for German citizens and refugees; c) combat of reasons for refugees to escape; d) economical dimensions. These themes are studied by using idea, argument and comparative analysis.
Merkel’s approach has simultaneously been both altered and unchanged during the three years. She stresses the importance of cooperation and equal contribution of the Member States concerning the division of refugees. She shows a strong belief in the constitutional state protecting Germans and refugees. Merkel’s stance changes from wanting a humane reception of refugees in 2015, safe roads to Europe in 2016, and reasonable lives for immigrants near their home countries in 2017. Merkel enunciates that there needs to be an international cooperation in the fight against escape causes. She makes clear that Germany has a strong economy and phrases in 2015 that the workforce is needed, in 2016, however, the migration flow must be reduced, and in 2017 she states that Germany must support the countries receiving huge amounts of immigrants, by supporting their economical development.
