¿Cachái lo que estái diciendo? Un estudio sobre el uso del voseo chileno en tres entrevistas

Summary, in English

This thesis aims to investigate the use of the Chilean voseo, which is a special form of the more broadly used voseo, a type of treatment that is used in many of the Spanish speaking countries on the American continent. The aim of this thesis is to investigate in which context and what parts of the interviews the voseo is used, in contrast to the more established form of treatment, tuteo. The research questions also aim to find which verbs show more and less preference for its vosean forms compared to the tutean ones, and which verbs are used most frequently. The theory section investigates the basics of the linguistic phenomenon that is voseo, but there is also a part that goes in more in depth on the pragmatic theories. The results show that the voseo is used mostly for generic reference, and at various times in contexts where the speaker tries to convey a humoristic message. The analysis shows that the conjugation of the verb cachar, cachái, shows a clear tendency towards voseo, almost to a level in which you can describe it as an idiosyncratic form of the verb. Apart from cachái, the small differences between the numbers of usage between the two forms indicates that it is more the context, informal for voseo, formal for tuteo, rather than the specific verbs, that helps the speaker choose the adequate form between the two.
