C. R. Koester. Hebrews (Anchor Bible, 36) 604 pp

Författare

Summary, in English

This commentary on the Letter to the Hebrews is written for a broad public, but it still reflects the author's scholarly learning and insights into the rhetorical structure and the theological meaning of this letter. The commentary is divided into three parts: 1) Translation; 2) Notes; 3) Comments (theological implications). Koester has succeeded in combining sociological and rhetorical insights with cultural anthropology. Of special importance is Koester's extensive review of earlier research on Hebrews from the beginning to the present day. Somehow unsatisfying is Koester's explanation of the difficult reading in Hebrews 6:4-6 (that there is no second repentance) with Hebrew's often used once-for-all technique. But as a whole this commentary is an extraordinary contribution the interpretation of Hebrews.
